Choir newsletter

We’ve been invited to sing at the Ivydale Primary School Summer Fete between 4 and 5pm onSaturday 13 July. Could anybody who is interested, please leave a note on our Facebookpage, or email We’d like to get at least ten singers along so that we can organise our set.

A team of NCC singers is taking part in Sing for Water to raise over £2,000 for WaterAid, an international charity with a mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities. The team will be performing at outside City Hall with hundreds of other London singers to raise money for this excellent cause.

Click on the link to go straight to their JustGiving web page, where you can donate securely and safely. And please circulate the link among friends, family and colleagues so that we can spread the word as widely as possible.

Another team of NCC singers is taking part in Catch A Fire at the South Bank Centre on Saturday 13 July (it’s all going on next weekend). They’ll be part of a community choir singing alongside reggae stars like Brinsley Forde, and the excellent Jazz Jamaica All Stars.

The choir has a committee of sorts that also doubles as a rather fine pub quiz team. If you would like to help out with organising gigs, publicity, membership drives and any aspect of running a community choir, please come along to the Waverley Arms in Ivydale Road onTuesday 9 July at 8pm. We might even stand you a pint of Brockley Brew.

We need gigs! If you know of an event that you think would just love to have South London’s Jolliest Community Choir come along and sing, please let us know. Talk to Claire, Sarah, Kay, or Al at rehearsals, email us at, or post something on our Facebook page, or tweet us @nunheadchoir.

Next rehearsal is on Thursday 11 July, at Ivydale School, 8pm – 9.30pm. Hope to see you there!

About Sarah Slade

Middle-aged, middle-sized and reluctantly middle-class eLearning designer, based in London. Wife to Mr Perfect, Mother of Little Miss Perfect. I write a lot of technical bollocks for a living, and as a consequence am very lazy about writing for myself. I occasionally write my own blog about living in London and sometimes I’ll find something interesting to say about my professional life. I sew a bit, I sing very averagely with an excellent jazz choir, and play a terrible game of badminton.
